Crazy Rich Asians is the first film I watched this year. I'm glad to know that this film is a great one. The film taught me many life lessons. A woman should be brave, tough and independent to pursue her life. Rachel and Astrid are my fave characters.
This film is about Nick Young and Rachel Chu love's story. Nick brought Rachel to Singapore to his best friend's wedding along to meet his crazy rich family, that he never told Rachel before. It's quite challenging for Rachel to bring herself into Nick's family as they have different life style and culture. Rachel surprised to found that Eleanor, Nick's mom told her that she was not enough for Nick. She tried to mend. But then she was shocked when Eleanor told her the fact about her family after Eleanor hire private investigator. Nick was very angry, he's done making an excuse about his family. He's on his determination to marry Rachel.
"I'm not leaving because I'm scared, or because I think I'm not enough. Because maybe for the first time in my life, I know I am."
I love the way Rachel dealing with Eleanor, in a elegant way. She's brilliant in arguing about their relationship. Rachel told Eleanor that Nick proposed her the day before, but Rachel turned him down. Not because she didn't want to, but she doesn't want Nick lose his family. She noted that if Nick choose the family over her, Nick might spend the rest of his life resenting Eleanor. When Eleanor said "only a fool folds a winning hand", Rachel replied that she loves Nick so much and willing to sacrifice her happiness for his and to remember that when Nick finds someone else, another lucky girl, in the future who Eleanor approves of and is happily married that it was her, just a daughter of a low-class immigrant and a nobody, who made it all possible. Rachel left it all clear before leaving back to America, to let Eleanor know exactly what's happening.
"But let's be clear. The problem with our marriage isn't my family's money. It's that you're a coward. You gave up on us. But I've just realized, it's not my job to make you feel like a man. I can't make you something you're not."
And about Astrid, I love how she deal with her husband, Michael, who has an affair during their marriage. She didn't want to make a scene when she found someone text Michael "the bed feels empty without you" during the party. Another day, Astrid confronted about that to Michael, her husband, on their way to the wedding. Michael tried to it around on her for making him feel inferior with her constantly buying expensive items. Michael got out of the car to leave her attending the wedding alone. Astrid conquer it. She kept going to the wedding accompany her grandma without Michael.
Watching this film where Singapore is its main location reminds me about every corner of Singapore I visited, the memories linger on. Well, I love this city. Modern, very clean, well organized and comfort. Gardens by the bay scene makes me want to fly there, my favorit spot in Singapore. I love strolling around the garden in the evening and end my day watching Gardens Rhapsody, when the super trees come alive at night with a dazzling display of light bursting across the sky and exhilarating sound. For me, it's just perfect.
P.S I suggest you to read another review of this film in different point of view which is just out of the box here.
